Do You Have Trouble Reading?

Are you struggling to read your mobile phone screen; the writing on labels and menus, and wondering when it all got so tiny?

It’s because your eyes are getting old. The crystalline lens is getting stiff and it’s much harder to focus on objects close to your eye…most people end up having to depend on reading glasses.

The ageing process is something you might be able to disguise with the right makeup, dress sense or attitude, but when the eyes grow old it is almost impossible to detract from those instantly ageing granny glasses you may be forced to wear.

What are the signs that my eyes are losing their power?

Presbyopia is the universal decline in near vision experienced by those over 40, caused by the hardening of the lens and weakening of the cillary muscles responsible for contracting or relaxing it.

The most common signs that you may be suffering from presbyopia are:

  • Difficulty reading small print
  • Holding objects at arm’s length to focus
  • Excessive squinting
  • Headaches
  • Tired, strained eyes

Do you want a permanent solution to reading glasses?

In a world where advanced technology is everywhere you look, from the latest Smartphone to being able to rewind live television, is it no surprise that huge strides have been made in corrective optical surgery.

The KAMRA inlay is one such example of the latest, most innovative technology being applied to treating presbyopia.

What cutting edge technology can I expect to be used with the KAMRA procedure?

A femtosecond laser is used to create a very precise incision on the surface of the cornea, at a depth of 0.2mm. This sophisticated laser technology is responsible for creating a smooth opening on the stroma, which makes up the innermost part of the cornea.

Using specially modified forceps, the KAMRA inlay - which is similar to a flat transparent doughnut - is positioned in the stroma where it immediately starts working by sending light through its 1.6mm centre and blocking out excess light rays.

The flap of skin is then folded back over and heals quickly, resulting in minimal downtime for any patient.

How long does the entire procedure take?

The entire KAMRA procedure usually takes less than 20 minutes. You won’t feel any pain as the eye is numbed with some anesthetic eye drops to maximize your comfort.

What about any future advances in treatments for presbyopia?

The best thing about getting the KAMRA inlay is that if any new treatments or advances in technology occur in the future, it can be removed safely.
