What’s New in Laser Technology?
Eye related problems are getting increasingly more common. More than 60 million people suffer from vision problems around the world. Some of the eye related problems reported are myopia or near sightedness, hypermetropia or far sightedness. Astigmatism is another commonly reported eye problem.
Laser eye treatment is probably the best eye treatment that can help out various people suffering from eye problems. Wearing a glass or lens is not as easy as it sounds. There are many problems associated with it. Glasses need to be rectified often and your vision power has to be checked. Glasses need to be wiped clean. However it hampers your day to day activity. You cannot swim or go out in the rain wearing glasses. Though light weight fibre glasses have been introduced, glasses still produce marks on your skin which cannot be rectified.
Considering all these aspects laser eye surgery is the best option that is available now. It is fast, comfortable and affordable. You can literally say good bye to your glasses after the surgery. The one point to be considered is that a laser eye treatment is allowed only for people over the age of 18. The newest technology in the LASIK eye surgery is known as Intralase. It is one of the most popular methods of surgical correction of the eyes nowadays. This method is quite beneficial for the people who refuse to undergo the eye surgery that uses surgical blade.
Olden days are gone, forget about the contact lenses and glasses, and make use of this advanced technology without having to worry about the blade getting inserted to your cornea. Instead of the blade that make uneven cuts on cornea, Intralase uses a laser beam that helps in creating bubble-pockets in the cornea.
Intralase method of surgical correction of eyes is also known as “All Laser Lasik” since it uses a laser beam for creating the corneal flap as mentioned before. The intralase laser chiefly works by emitting little burst of light that passes through the surface of the eyes to a predetermined microscopic depth. Each pulse of light is capable of creating a bubble beneath the surface of eyes.
The bubbles accumulate and cover over all treatment area. The surgeon then separates the corneal tissue and holds the corneal flap out so as to finish the LASIK surgery. The conventional laser treatment is much simpler. Before zeroing on a surgeon and a hospital, make sure that you choose a surgeon and a doctor who is well experienced, trustworthy and has a good profile.
The procedure may be quite frightening as you will have to stay awake for the entire procedure which might take about 15 to 30 minutes. Before the surgery, the doctor will give you a mild oral sedative. You are then asked to lie down on a chair and anaesthesia is applied to your eye in the form of droplets. This will make your eyes numb so you will not feel any pain or discomfort during the treatment.
After this, a holder is placed between your eyelids and your eye is positioned under the laser. You are then asked to look straight at the laser and the duration is decided according to the level of correction.
