Lasek Eye Surgery (Photorefractive Keratectomy-PRK)
For patients with corneas too thin for LASIK surgery, PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) or Surface Treatment (PRK/EK) is an excellent alternative. This treatment is also known as LASEK.
In this procedure, the surgery is carried out on the inner tissue of the cornea rather than on the outside as with LASIK.
Step 1
Your Conusltant Opthalmic Surgeon applies anaesthetic drops to the eye.
Step 2
A portion of the eye surface known as the epithelium is softened using an ethanol solution and moved gently aside.
Step 3
The laser is then gently applied to the underlying surface to reshape the cornea and correct your prescription. This is entirely pain free.
Step 4
A protective contact lens is placed over your cornea for five days which provides comfort and protection to the eye surface as it heals.
